The Coppa Italia quarter-final was decided by half-time with goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Rodrigo Bentancur and Leonardo Bonucci, with Cengiz Under’s strike bouncing in off Gigi Buffon’s back only a consolation.

“Juventus scored in both the first and second time they got anywhere near our goal,” the coach told Rai Sport.

“They scored on the counter-attack and players like Ronaldo don’t miss in those situations. I also saw Gonzalo Higuain track back to help the defence and I believe all three of the Roma forwards ought to work harder defensively, especially in the first half. Justin Kluivert, Cengiz Under and Nikola Kalinic have to work harder in defence.

“We know that Edin Dzeko is a very important player for us and his ban was damaging, but the problem wasn’t just Kalinic. All the forwards could’ve done much better this evening.”

There could well be further problems for the Roma medical staff, as Amadou Diawara went off with a twinge in his knee.

“I am very worried. We’ll see what Diawara has, but we don’t have many players in our squad at the moment. Hopefully he will be available for the next game with Lazio.

“That will be a very different match, because Lazio do not play the same style of football as Juventus. We have to work harder when we lose the ball to get it back immediately.”
