The two sides clash in the Coppa Italia Round of 16, and the Portuguese coach says he’s been happy with recent performances against Torino and Juventus.
“The team hasn’t won these last two games, but we’ve had great games. We played well, when this happens we have to look to the future with optimism,” Fonseca told Roma’s official TV channel.
The former Shakhtar Donetsk boss expects a tough challenge from the Gialloblu tomorrow.
“They are a very strong team, for me the strongest on the counter-attack, with very quick offensive players.
“They are a physical team, very solid, they are difficult to play against. But I think we have prepared strategically for the game well and the players want to win tomorrow.”
Fonseca confirms that Nikola Kalinic will start.
“Kalinic will play in place of Nicolo Zaniolo. He’s trained well and I’m confident he will put in a good performance.”
Roma have had a lengthy injury list all season, but are finally starting to see some players return.
“[Bryan] Cristante is ready, he’s been training for a week. [Justin] Kluivert has only started this week. He is ready to play. [Davide] Santon has recovered and also started training with us. All three are ready.”
