Roma coach Paulo Fonseca confirms new Valencia signing Alessandro Florenzi “wanted to play more, but I can’t make promises to anyone.”

Florenzi was the Giallorossi’s club captain, but left this week due to a lack of guaranteed playing time under Fonseca.

He joined Spanish outfit Valencia on a dry loan until the end of the season.

“Florenzi and I had a relaxed and direct conversation. He’s a great professional, he had the attitude of a great captain,” said Fonseca in his press conference.

“He wants to play more, but I can’t make promises to anyone. He had the opportunity to go to Valencia and decided to go for it. The situation is very simple.”

Roma have been accused of not being prolific in front of goal without Edin Dzeko, and Fonseca says he is working on the issue.

“The team always creates many opportunities. If I’m honest: the ability to make the right decision is one the most experienced players have.

“Cengiz Under and Justin Kluivert are young players, but with time they will improve their decision-making skills.

“The team creates; we always have opportunities to score. We work on this issue because it needs to be improved.”

Roma signed Carles Perez, Roger Ibanez and Gonzalo Villar during the transfer window, but Fonseca says they won’t play from the start against Sassuolo.

“All three are called up, but they won’t play from the beginning, but it may happen that they come on as substitutes.

“They didn’t train much with the team and we may have the need to play them.”

Pau Lopez made a terrible blunder in the Rome derby last weekend, costing Roma the win.

“I haven’t spoken to him. It’s a technical question, so Marco Savorani talked to him. I don’t need to speak to Pau.

“He’s a great goalkeeper, and I don’t have to let him know my trust in him, he knows I believe in him.

“It’s a situation where I don’t need to explain anything to him.”

Roma squad to face Sassuolo: Pau Lopez, Fuzato, Mirante; Smalling, Kolarov, Cetin, Santon, Fazio, Mancini, Bruno Peres, Spinazzola, Ibanez; Cristante, Pellegrini, Perotti, Villar, Veretout, Pastore; Dzeko, Cengiz Under, Kalinic, Perez, Kluivert
