Milan coach Paulo Fonseca has revealed that his compatriot and Rossoneri star Rafael Leao is undertaking additional individual training sessions to work on the defensive aspect of his game.

Fonseca spoke at his customary pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon, ahead of the visit from Lecce in Serie A on Friday night.

Fonseca confirms Leao undertaking extra sessions at Milan

Though one of the star players of the Rossoneri squad, Leao is still growing and improving as a player, Fonseca says.

As the coach wants all of his players, including the attackers, to chip in with defensive duties, Leao has been undertaking additional training sessions to help with his game out of possession.

“We’re working hard, also individually on defensive things with Rafa,” Fonseca said during his press conference on Thursday.

“And it is clear to everyone that Leao is growing. He can do better, but he is improving defensively. We have to defend with all our players, including Rafa.”

Milan rose to a 2-1 victory over rivals Inter in the Derby della Madonnina in Serie A on Sunday, which helped Fonseca secure his position as head coach for the time being.

The tactician feels, however, that the win over the Nerazzurri will count for nothing if his players are unable to rise to victory over Lecce in the league on Friday night.
