RC Lens midfielder Seko Fofana spoke positively of links with Milan and reveals the club already tried to sign him in 2020. ‘I always speak to my friend Mike Maignan.’

The 27-year-old Ivory Coast international is no stranger to Serie A, having spent most of his career at Udinese from 2016 to 2020 when moving to RC Lens for €8.5m.

Under contract until June 2024, he has been linked with a possible transfer to San Siro as a replacement for Barcelona-bound Franck Kessie.

Fofana spoke to Milannews.it and confessed it was an intriguing idea, but not necessarily a new one.

“The Rossoneri are a great team who just won the Scudetto. I like Milan, but today I am happy at Lens. I don’t tend to pay too much attention to transfer rumours for the moment.

“If Paolo Maldini wants me, he has to talk to the club, it’s not my decision. Milan could’ve signed me in 2020 before I came here, but then they didn’t go through with it.

“I repeat, I am happy here, I live well at Lens after many years in Italy and am enjoying being back in my home country. We’ll see what happens.”

When asked if he would enjoy playing for the Rossoneri, Fofana does not deny it would be an ideal destination for him.

“Milan have a great team. I always talk to my friend Mike Maignan, who confirms Milan have great objectives for the future. They have many experienced players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud and now need to confirm themselves. I hope they do well.”

Fofana made 41 competitive appearances for Lens last season, contributing 10 goals and two assists.

He has no shortage of Serie A experience with Udinese, playing 112 games in the Italian top flight.
