Alessandro Florenzi insists Manchester City ‘have won the battle, but not the war yet’ after PSG lost the first leg of the Champions League semi-final.

The hosts had dominated the first half and taken the lead through a Marquinhos header, with Marco Verratti coming very close to a second.

It was a completely different game after the break, although the goals came from a Kevin de Bruyne cross that bounced past everyone and a Riyad Mahrez free kick bursting through the wall.

“We lost our shape, it’s not like us,” confessed Florenzi on Sky Sport Italia.

“We are 22 talented players on the pitch, it’s a battle for 90 minutes. The first goal was a little fortunate, the second went through the wall. Details make the difference at this level.

“However, we’re only halfway through the battle, they haven’t won the war yet. We hope to continue the trend of away wins. It won’t be easy, but this team has what it takes to win in Manchester. We need 11 warriors ready to die on the pitch.”

Florenzi was sent out on loan by Roma after losing his place in the side, yet is now starting a Champions League semi-final for Paris Saint-Germain.

“It’s satisfying that I can play at this level. I always give 100 per cent and it’s good to know my teammates can rely on me.”
