Alessandro Florenzi recognises this was Milan’s worst performance of the campaign when losing at home to Udinese. ‘We must learn from this situation and accept it.’
They were jeered off the pitch after an embarrassing 1-0 home defeat to Udinese, who until today had not won a single Serie A match this season.
In all competition, the Rossoneri have only one draw from their last four games, failing to find the net in three of those.
“I think the performance against Juventus up until and even after the red card was good,” Florenzi told Sky Sport Italia.
“We certainly made mistakes against PSG, while with Napoli we were 2-0 up and deserved to win with that performance.
“Tonight we lacked something. We gave the ball away repeatedly and the moments just didn’t go our way. It felt like the kind of game where if we had 25 attempts on goal, it was not going into the net.”
While Milan had been very wasteful in previous matches, this time they barely tested Marco Silvestri until stoppages with an Olivier Giroud header and Florenzi’s volley.
“What we need is to understand the moment. If you understand it is not the moment to play out from the back, you have the clarity of mind to make a different decision. I don’t think we currently have that clarity, that determination or that nous.”
The veteran had not been expected to start this evening, but had to step in at left-back because Theo Hernandez was ruled out by a bruised ankle.
The other alternatives were also injured, as Pierre Kalulu is out for four months following surgery, while Marco Pellegrini fractured his foot.
“I have a phrase that I try to teach my daughters and those I care about: ‘All’s well that ends well.’ Now we must accept this situation, learn from it, but accept it. The most important thing now is that we all work together, in the same direction.”
The next match could not be tougher, welcoming Paris Saint-Germain to San Siro in a must-win Champions League clash.
“We must play the game of a lifetime, very different to today. We have what it takes to do that.”
