Alessandro Florenzi’s lawyers confirm that the Milan full-back admitted to ‘gambling using illegal sites,’ but never placed bets on football matches, so is likely heading only for a fine.

The Italy international was placed under investigation yesterday and this afternoon spent an hour giving his deposition to the public prosecutor in Turin as part of the on-going look into illegal gambling in Calcio.

“Alessandro Florenzi spoke to public prosecutor Manuela Pedrotta, clarifying his position and reaffirming he is absolutely extraneous to any type of bets on football, nor has any other evidence or suggestion emerged in that sense,” read a statement from lawyers Gianluca Tognozzi and Antonio Conte.

“He also recognised that he did play on illegal platforms and provided the public prosecutor with all the clarification requested, hoping to define his position as soon as possible.”

While Sandro Tonali and Nicolò Fagioli have both confessed to placing bets on football matches, so were given respectively bans of 10 and seven months.

However, Nicolò Zaniolo and Florenzi both insist they have only ever gambled on illegal sites for games such as poker, black jack and roulette.

The Aston Villa and Milan players are expected to only receive fines for this, rather than suspension from football.

While Zaniolo gave his deposition last month, there has been no further news on what action will be taken against him.
