Roma midfielder Alessandro Florenzi says he’d have been a barman if he hadn’t made it as a footballer.

The Roma vice-captain made his comeback from a second serious knee injury in the friendly with Chapecoense, and he spoke to Sky about his early life.

“I’m happy to do this job,” Florenzi said.

“I don’t know what else I would have done, maybe I’d be a barman like a few of my friends. I don’t know, but I think I’d have worked in the restaurant world.

“My first memory, if I think about football, is linked to when I played in Pozzolana at the Acilia sports centre where my parents had the bar.

“The ball was always with me for the first part of my life.

“I think of the thing the Uruguayan writer Eduardo Geleano wrote: ‘to explain to a child what happiness is, I’d give him a ball to play with, it’s perfect to explain the concept of joy’.

“That’s what football gave to me, I’m happy with a ball between my feet.”
