Alessandro Florenzi admits it’s “a beautiful feeling” to captain Roma, but hopes Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi don’t retire any time soon.

The midfielder has worn the armband on several occasions this season, but hopes he’s not given the captaincy on a permanent basis anytime soon.

“It’s a beautiful feeling,” Florenzi explained to Roma Radio.

“I’m third or fourth in line, because when Seydou [Keita] is there he’s ahead of me.

“It’s a beautiful feeling,” Florenzi explained to Roma Radio.

“I’m third or fourth in line, because when Seydou [Keita] is there he’s ahead of me.

“But there are two giants [Totti and De Rossi] in front of me who have given their lives for this shirt and this armband, and we hope they’ll continue while they have the strength.”

The Giallorossi were defeated 2-0 by Real Madrid on Tuesday night, condemning them to a 4-0 aggregate loss and Florenzi admits the defeat still stings.

“We’re angry, and we have to use all this anger in Udine [against Udinese on Sunday] because that’s all we can do.

“We can’t say that game would make up for a game like Tuesday which can be worth a season, winning that is like winning 40 in the League and can give you the shortest route to being considered great.

“Instead we’ll go the long way, through Udine.”
