Alessandro Florenzi scored in a disappointing first pre-season friendly for new Milan coach Paulo Fonseca, as they were held 1-1 by Rapid Vienna.

The Rossoneri had their maiden outing at the Allianz Stadion in Vienna against a Rapid side who will play their Europa League preliminary round tie next week.

It was far from a complete squad, as many players are still on vacation after the EURO 2024 and Copa America tournaments.

Rapid Vienna looked visibly sharper and hit the woodwork after seven minutes with Seidl.

Fonseca changed the entire XI for the second half, where Alexis Saelemaekers looked the most impressive player.

The hosts continued to create the best scoring opportunities with Beljo’s header and a Pierre Kalulu block on Dursun.

Milan took the lead somewhat against the run of play with Florenzi meeting the Daniel Maldini cross.

Lorenzo Torriani made a save on Auer’s angled drive and Saelemaekers had penalty appeals rejected just before Rapid Vienna equalised with substitute Demir left unmarked at the back post.
