The Gabigol saga drags on, as Flamengo insist they “should have a happy ending” next week, but remain a long way off Inter’s asking price.
Gabriel Barbosa is still owned by Inter, but rediscovered his form on loan in Brazil for first Santos and then Flamengo.
He scored 34 goals in 43 games for Flamengo, leading them to the Brazilian league title as well as the historic Copa Libertadores and the Final of the Club World Cup.

“We had an excellent meeting yesterday,” assured Flamengo vice-president Marcos Braz during a press conference.
“We took steps forward and I think we should have a happy ending by the end of next week. At least, I hope we do.”
However, Sky Sport Italia report that while Gabigol may have agreed personal terms to remain, Flamengo are still a long way off matching the Inter asking price.
The gap remains €4-5m and that is not insignificant for a club with Flamengo’s finances.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claim the offer is €18m plus 20 per cent of any future transfer fee, whereas Inter want €22m.
Inter have interest in Gabigol from West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace, while Barcelona were also mentioned by Mundo Deportivo today due to Luis Suarez’s knee injury.
The Nerazzurri paid €29.5m to sign Gabigol from Santos in 2016.
He made only 10 competitive appearances in an Inter jersey, scoring one goal.
