Destiny Udogie’s equaliser against Milan yesterday was the latest example of the Rossoneri getting the short end of the stick when it comes to refereeing calls.

The Udinese defender scored the equalising goal in the 66th minute of yesterday’s Serie A clash at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza with his hand, but this was not seen by either the referee or VAR, leaving the Rossoneri infuriated at the end of the match. Frustratingly for Stefano Pioli, this was not the first time that Milan have suffered at the hands of a poor decision.

In the 1-0 loss to Napoli back in December, Franck Kessie’s equalising goal was disallowed after a VAR check, with the referee initially giving the goal before deciding that Olivier Giroud had interfered with play from an offside position, despite laying flat on the ground.

Another incident came in the Rossoneri’s 2-1 loss to Spezia last month; Junior Messias’ goal was not given as the referee had blown his whistle for a foul on Ante Rebic only moments before the ball was shot into the back of the net. He apologised for the mistake later, but that meant little to Pioli’s side.

Back in October, Theo Hernandez was sent off during the 2-1 win over Roma, forcing him to miss the derby against Inter. The first yellow card was the right call, but the second was a little questionable, especially considering that there was an obvious foul by Rade Krunić in the midfield only moments beforehand, which wasn’t called.

Finally, there’s the penalty given to Hellas Verona back in the 3-2 win in October. There was a clash between Alessio Romagnoli and Nikola Kalinić at the edge of the penalty area and the Gialloblu were awarded a penalty, despite the fact that video later revealed that the Croatian had in fact fouled the Italian defender.

  1. Who wrote this subjective, one sided article? How about the Guida derby after Giroud fouled Sanchez yet goal stood? How about the Venezia game when Venezia were denied a pk against Florenzi? Or the non red card against Salesmakers ? Or Tonali pulling the shirt of Zaniolo yet Roma were not awarded a pk?

Sancez challenge was never a faul. Dude was running on shaky feet. It was shoulder to shoulder and football is a physical game! Go watch ballet instead.

  3. honestly it was a foul. especially based on how the ref was reffing the game till that point. Diaz gets sniffed on and he was blowing his whistle. Please be less biased.

  4. AZ take off your blinders!! MILAN have had a lot of things go there way also, stop your whining

  5. Watch it.
He plays the ball before any other contact.
The other contact would not have been a foul anyway.
The ref thought so. Var thought so. The referees on Italian TV thought so. The Tv pundits thought so. The newspapers thought so. The only people who thought it was a foul were the poor man’s Pippo and some bitter Inter fans. As this article clearly demonstrates, you have been lucky, very, very lucky.

  6. Giroud against Sanchez was man against boy :-). If Sanchez was normal sized it would just have been shoulder to shoulder. Now it was shoulder to head, but only because Sanchez is a midget. Not Girouds fault 🙂

You should have realise mate this site is on milan’s side, for example on roma section, the fixture info are displaying milan matches, very profesional

There are literally a few of those refereeing decision examples in EVERY match that you can argue about, but blatant robberies like the examples of Spezia, Udinese and Napoli match will RARELY happen to one team in a season if it happens at all. Each one of them is equivalent of Muntari’s infamous “ghost goal”. These not possible penalty or red card calls, these are valid goals called off or illegitimate goals being given to opponent.

Giroud never fouled Sanchez. He touched the ball FIRST and then clattered into Sanchez. It’s clear as day on slow-mo replays.

No point to cry over spilt milk now. Hopefully Maldini’s outburst will put an end to these atrocious decisions from now on. Milan can still have a say if they get their act together.

  9. If we rely on refereeing decisions to win games for us, we have already lost. Milan were awful last night, awful. This is a team we should be 3-0 up against by half time. Take away the option to have another game ruined by a ref.

Couldn’t score 2 goals against Udinese. That’s what it comes down to.

  10. “FIVE TIMES MILAN HAVE SUFFERED POOR REFEREEING DECISIONS THIS SEASON” is what this titled, and some people somehow insert Inter inside it.

I mean, people need to learn how to read. Some even talk about world problems. You are reading an article from a football site, for god sake.

i’m not saying this because i’m a Milan fan, but unfavourable decisions against Milan and some teams like Roma is too often an abvious to be ignored. If you love Italian football you would be concerned too. It’s too crazy already

  11. I have no problem admitting when Napoli get unfair decisions in their favour, there have particularly been some non-existent pk’s against smaller teams the past 2-3 seasons. But Kessie’s goal in that 1-0 match just WASN’T legit! Giroud fouled Jesus and then interfered with play from an offside position, just the fact he was in contact with a defender in an offside position means the game should be stopped, it’s elementary! in fact, he and ibrahimofish were extremely lucky to not get red-carded then, given they tried to kickbox their way through napoli the ENTIRE game! Football is a contact sport, but it ain’t no MMA. This bullishness that started in the PL and is rapidly spreading is ruining the game. We don’t see flair players anymore and it’s a real shame. This article is a complete joke. GTFOH, FI

I guess former Serie A ref Mauro Bergonzi should also watch ball, because in his analysis he said it was a foul.

  13. @Az

    What does faul mean?

    I guess you mean foul

In the Super bowl or rugby it is not a foul. In football it is. You can not barge into your opponent like this. Fouls for much lesser contact get given if you actually watch football regularly

Former Serie A ref Mauro Bergonzi said it was a foul. May be he should watch ballet and you know more about the rules…
