With the transfer window deadline fast approaching, there are still a handful of high-profile Serie A players who have not yet secured their plans for the immediate future, including Italy star Federico Chiesa, Roma’s Paulo Dybala and Napoli talisman Victor Osimhen.

Chiesa remains out of Thiago Motta’s first team plans and has recently been instructed to train individually while he secures a move to his next club, which is likely to still be in Serie A.

Dybala has been subject of interest from Saudi Arabia and has reportedly been offered an enormous contract in an attempt to lure him away from Roma.

Osimhen, meanwhile, has not featured for Napoil at all since Antonio Conte’s arrival at the start of the summer. His last run-our came in the final Serie A game of the 2024-25 season

There are also uncertainties surrounding former Manchester United loanee Sofyan Amrabat, currently back with Fiorentina, and Atalanta’s most expensive signing of all time El-Bilal Toure, who could be on the move again just one year after his Serie A arrival.

Five Serie A players with uncertain futures

Federico Chiesa – Juventus

Chiesa has been told that he is no longer part of the first-team plans moving forward in Turin. The 26-year-old is now into the final year of his contract with the Old Lady, and the club would rather sell him now rather than lose him for free in less than a year’s time.

He has not been called up for any of Juve’s recent pre-season friendlies and has also been training individually, away from the rest of the first team at various stages this summer. Roma are interested in acquiring his services should Paulo Dybala jet off for Saudi Arabia.

Sky Sport Italia believe that Milan could come forward with a proposal if Chiesa is still available at the end of the transfer window, while earlier reports suggested Inter would be prepared to wait for him if he became available as a free agent next summer.

Paulo Dybala – Roma

La Joya has been offered an enormous contract to join Al-Qadsiah of the Saudi Pro League. The proposed deal reportedly stands at €20m per season over three years, potentially with the option for a fourth. That does not include bonuses.

It’s a head-turning offer, which Dybala is still evaluating. Some outlets suggested on Thursday that he had given the green light to the move, while others believe he is still taking his time to consider his next steps.

Dybala’s contract with Roma is up at the end of the 2024-25 season anyway, so Roma could also be tempted into letting him go for a fee now, rather than losing him on a free and having to pay his still relatively hefty salary for another year.

Victor Osimhen – Napoli

Arguably the Serie A transfer saga of the summer. The Nigerian has not featured for Napoli since the final game of the 2023-24 season, and the Partenopei are increasingly desperate to move him on to raise funds for more signings this summer.

Osimhen has a release clause worth €130m in the contract that he re-negotiated last season, but it seems less and less likely that Napoli will be able to find a club willing to pay that fee before the end of the transfer window.

They can still sell for a slightly reduced price, with Chelsea pushing to sign him after their deal for Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion fell through last week. There are still suggestions that the player would prefer a move to Paris Saint-Germain, but the Ligue 1 side have not yet come forward with a formal proposal for him.

Sofyan Amrabat – Fiorentina

The former Manchester United loanee is another who is back in training, but not part of his club’s plans for the upcoming season. He returned to Fiorentina mid-way through the summer after United opted out of activating their optional buy-clause last season.

There had been reports of interest from Atletico Madrid earlier this summer, who are in the market for a new midfielder, but are now negotiating with Chelsea for England international Conor Gallagher.

He, too, will be out of contract at the end of the Serie A season and La Viola would ideally like to capitalise on his market value now, otherwise he is free to negotiate with any club he pleases from January onwards.

El-Bilal Toure – Atalanta

Atalanta made Toure their most expensive signing ever when they lured him away from Almeira last summer. Now though, and even with a long-term injury to Gianluca Scamacca, he does not look like a long-term option for Gian Piero Gasperini.

Gasp instead opted to invest €22m in Italy international Mateo Retegui to cover the loss of Scamacca, which pushed Toure even further down the pecking order in Bergamo.

There had been links with a move to Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart earlier in the summer. AFC Bournemouth had been suggested as a possible destination, too, before they secured a deal with Porto for Brazilian striker Evanilson. Toure’s future is now up in the air once again, but for now, he remains in Serie A.
