Lega Serie A President Lorenzo Casini spoke to Radio Rai yesterday and amongst other things, mentioned that he is pushing the FIGC to allow more Serie A teams to allow more Serie A clubs to register second teams in the Lega Pro.

Juventus’ ‘Next Gen’ team was the first of its kind after Italian football reintroduced the concept of reserve teams, but to date, they are the only club who have a second squad competing in the professional league system.

Juve Next Gen currently sit in 12th place of the Serie A Group C table, but have seen a number of players progress into the first team since its foundation just over five years ago.

Those names include recent first teamers Nicolo Fagioli, Fabio Miretti, Samuel Iling-Junior, Kaio Jorge, Matias Soule and most recently Tommaso Barbieri.

According to Tuttsport, more Serie A sides are interested in registering a second team in the Lega Pro without needing to wait for the end of the Serie C season to see whether any places are in fact available or need filling.

There is also reported to be an initial registration fee of €1.2 million, which clubs are hoping will be reduced.

If changes are made, it has been reported that Roma, Milan, Sassuolo, Monza and Torino could all be interested in launching new youth teams in the professional setup.
