Public prosecutor Giovanni Salvi has revealed that at least five Catania matches are under investigation for match-fixing.
Seven people were arrested this morning as part of the investigation, including Catania President Antonino Pulvirenti, Vice-President Pablo Cosentino and former sporting director Daniele Delli Carri.
Speaking in a Press conference, Salvi outlined the ongoing process.
“We believe that from the information gathered at least five matches, maybe six, have been rigged by paying players,” said Salvi.
“There are other suspects, but we aren’t giving their names because we don’t want them to be investigated by the press.”
The matches under investigation are: Varese 0-3 Catania, Catania 4-1 Trapani, Latina 1-2 Catania, Catania 2-0 Ternana and Catania 1-1 Livorno.
The sixth match which is being looked into was Catania’s 1-0 win over Avellino on March 29.
