The fitness of Simone Inzaghi’s first team squad has taken a minor blow in the early stages of the international break, as Alessandro Bastoni, Hakan Calhanoglu and Marko Arnautovic have all reported varying issues, but the latter two will not be kept out for a significant period.

The most concerning of Inter’s international representatives is Bastoni, who has withdrawn from Luciano Spalletti’s Italy squad ahead of the important Euro 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Ukraine.

The 24-year-old has an injury to his calf and is set for a round of medical examinations early next week. It is, however, expected that he will miss a crucial run of fixtures for Inter, which includes games against Juventus, Benfica and Napoli in their next three.

Calhanoglu has also returned to Milan from international duty, but his absence from the Turkey squad is due to illness rather than injury, so it is expected that he will be back in time for the return of league action after the break.

Arnautovic, meanwhile, went down after a strong tackle during Austria’s game against Estonia on Thursday, but he was able to finish the match. The initial assessments are that he will not be kept out of action.
