Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic is reportedly on the verge of a transfer to West Ham United for €17m plus bonuses.

The centre-back turns 24 in October and is in the final season of his contract at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, so therefore available at a lower fee.

According to Sportitalia and transfer expert Pedro Almeida, the deal has been done for €17m plus add-ons.

This is pending a medical and it is not yet clear if the Serbia international has agreed personal terms yet, or if this is just the transfer between the two clubs that is in progress.

Milenkovic was also linked with the likes of Juventus, Sevilla and Tottenham Hotspur, but firm offers never materialised.

The Viola also still owe 10 per cent of any transfer fee to his former club Partizan Belgrade.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina have already found his replacement in the form of Matija Nastasic from Schalke 04 for a minimal fee.

This is a return to Florence for 28-year-old Nastasic, who already played here in 2011-12.

  1. What a shambles.
No top Italian side wants to sign this guy for 17m?! Really?!
Inhury-prone has-been Nastastic coming in. Typical Serie A.
This is shaping up to be the worst mercato in a long, long time.

  2. I can’t fathom how Milinkovic is worth less than 20m, when you see relegation level defenders moving from Brighton to Arsenal for more than double. It makes absolutely no sense.
And I totally agree with @FERBAN. This is shaping up to be a woeful summer for Serie A. We were finally beginning to get real competition back into the league, and now we are losing players left, right, and centre. God knows how many more to follow in the coming weeks.
