Fiorentina are reportedly making Alexandre Pato their number one target in the January transfer window, but will have to sell first.

The Brazilian striker spent six seasons in Serie A with Milan, and managed 51 goals in 117 games despite being plagued by injuries.

The attacker is still just 25, and La Nazione reports that the Viola are targeting the Corinthians forward who is currently on loan at Sao Paolo.

Fiorentina Coach Vincenzo Montella doesn’t have his problems to seek in the attacking department, with Giuseppe Rossi still out as he recovers from a knee injury and Federico Bernardeschi also sidelined with a broken ankle.

The newspaper has been linking Pato with a move to Artemio Franchi recently, and today reiterates the claim, but states that the Viola will have to sell before they can buy.

Mounir El Hamdaoui, Oleksandr Yakovenko and Octavio have all struggled for playing time, with the former two on loan at Malaga and all are linked with the exit door.

Andrea Lazzari could also leave the Tuscan club in January, with the Fiorentina hierarchy keen to receive a fee for the midfielder rather than letting him leave for free when his contract expires in the summer, and Joshua Brillante could be allowed to leave on loan.

Should the Viola manage to get some of those players off the wage bill, La Nazione believes Pato would be the club’s preferred option in the transfer market.
