Fiorentina’s chief medic confirmed Giuseppe Rossi will be out for four or five months and preferred surgery in Colorado.
The striker went under the knife for the fourth time and it had been reported the Viola weren’t entirely happy with his decision to have the operation in America.
“Overall the outcome was fairly good, because the keyhole surgery confirmed the stability of the ligament, which had been damaged in January against Livorno,” Paolo Manetti told the official Fiorentina website.
“It was considered necessary to go under the knife and fix the meniscus tear. Giuseppe preferred Colorado, despite the fact our consultants had said the same things.
“It was a non-invasive operation and will allow the complete recovery of the knee’s stability, which will require a longer time on the sidelines.
“It could’ve been a more complex operation, but the specialist repaired the meniscus and did not remove anything. We know Giuseppe’s character, he was born for football and some controversy over the time of recovery is unnecessary.
“The length of the recovery process will be dictated by the specialist: whether it’s four or five months we’ll know following later check-ups.
“For six weeks he cannot put any weight on the leg, but after that we’ll start strengthening the muscles.”
Fiorentina medic Manetti also confirmed Federico Bernardeschi, Mati Fernandez and Marko Marin are available for selection this weekend.
“Marin is working with the squad and that is important. He is fully recovered, even if in terms of fitness levels he’s still a bit behind. The decision on whether to call him up for a game is for the Coach to make.”
