A minute’s silence will be held for the six confirmed dead in Tuscany due to floods, but Fiorentina ultras are demanding that their game with Juventus be called off in the circumstances.

The match is due to kick off on Sunday at 19.45 GMT at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Mayor of Florence Dario Nardella said today that there are currently no plans to move the fixture, but they are evaluating the situation carefully.

The Lega Serie A announced there will be a minute’s silence held before kick-off in every Serie A and B match this weekend in honour of the six people who are confirmed to have died in the floods caused by Storm Ciaran.

That is not enough for the Fiorentina ultras of the Curva Fiesole, who released a statement demanding more action.

“Part of our city is completely on its knees, houses are destroyed, lives in tatters and while it continues to rain people think of playing the game on Sunday as if nothing had happened.

“In a clear, decisive and categorical fashion, the Curva Fiesole ask that the match be postponed, so that the energy and resources are dedicated exclusively to our people who are struggling and not to put on a sporting event.

“We demand respect or the victims, their families, for those who have lost everything in just a few hours and now feel abandoned, without light or electricity, surrounded by water.”

The Fiorentina ultras have not just released a statement, but also taken concrete action to help those who are suffering in the devastating floods.

They have set up several different venues to act as hubs to collect provisions that will then be delivered to those in the flooded areas.

They are also gathering together gloves, spades, buckets and other equipment that will allow them – when given the all-clear by police – to physically help the clean-up operation.
