Fiorentina playmaker Lucas Torreira confirms that his agent met Fiorentina to discuss a permanent move from Arsenal: ‘I am happy here.’

The Uruguay international joined the Tuscans on loan with an option to buy for €15m last summer. According to reports, Fiorentina have a clause to make the midfielder’s move permanent before the beginning of the summer transfer window, but La Viola directors are now trying to lower Arsenal’s economic demands.

The former Sampdoria star has confirmed talks between his agent and Fiorentina.

“I am happy here because I have a lot of confidence,” he told Uruguayan radio Sport890.

“I still belong to Arsenal, and there are many things that I must consider, but I am happy here.”

Torreira scored the winner in Fiorentina’s 1-0 win over Bologna yesterday. Coach Vincenzo Italian has slightly changed his role following Dusan Vlahovic’s move to Juventus in the winter transfer window.

“The coach is asking me to play closer to the opponents’ box,” confirmed Torreira, “and somehow it was useful to help the team win.”

It remains to be seen if Arsenal will agree to sell Torreira for a lower price given that, according to the player’s agent, the Gunners are still upset about Vlahovic’s move to Juventus in January. The 22-year-old was one of their main targets in the winter transfer window.

Torreira’s Fiorentina future in doubt: ‘Arsenal still upset for Vlahovic’

  1. Somewhat childish if Arsenal are holding Fiorentina to ransom over Torreira because of Vlahović. Dušan didn’t want to play for Arsenal and wanted only Juve. It had little to do with Fiorentina.
Let Torreira go, he is happy in Florence.

  2. Correct @purple_iain – it does annoy me that this business about Arsenal being upset over Vlahovic keeps getting parotted here and on BT Sport, as if Fiorentina preferred him to go to Juve. It would be helpful if they completed the story by reminding readers/viewers that Vlahovic had no intention of going to Arsenal. Anyway, I hope Torreira stays, he’s happy and so are we.
