Fiorentina have released a statement to support their defender Lorenzo Venuti after his girlfriend Augusta Iezzi had been insulted on social media.

Venuti’s partner had posted several sickening messages received by a Fiorentina fan on Instagram following yesterday’s 1-0 loss against Milan. In some of those, she was called called ‘f****** Neapolitan and told that Venuti should die.

She posted the screenshots in her Instagram stories and took a video of her shaking hand, saying she would report the fan to the Police the following day.

Fiorentina have also taken action with an official statement to support their defender and his girlfriend.

“The presidency, the board, and the club’s coaching and playing staff would like to express their support for Lorenzo Venuti and his girlfriend after they received deplorable insults on social media,” the club said.

“The club would like to reiterate that fairness and respect are fundamental and that it believes that these kinds of messages are intolerable.

“The club will firmly support the player and his partner, pursuing every possible option so that those responsible of such despicable actions can be promptly identified and punished.”
