Italian agent and South American football expert Sabatino Durante believes Fiorentina striker Lucas Beltran is ‘worth as much as Julian Alvarez when he joined Manchester City’ but he must play in the ‘right position.’
Beltran was Fiorentina’s big summer signing as he joined the Tuscans from River Plate for €25m replacing Arhur Cabral.
However, the 22-year-old hasn’t yet justified his price tag having only found the net twice in 13 appearances across all competitions. The Argentinean, who was called up by Lionel Scaloni in September, has yet to score his first goal in Serie A.
Sabatino Durante, a FIFA agent not part of the player’s entourage, and one of the biggest experts of South American football in Italy, explained Beltran’s struggles in an interview with Radio Firenze Viola (as quoted by Calciomercato.com).
“Somebody must tell Vincenzo Italiano that Beltran is not a centre forward. Beltran is worth as much as Julian Alvarez when he joined Manchester City or Lautaro Martinez when he signed for Inter,” he said.
“However, he must play in the right position. He can be a support striker or an attacking midfielder playing behind a centre forward.”
Fiorentina currently sit 6th in the Serie A table, one point below fourth-placed Napoli. The Tuscans have scored 20 goals in 12 league matches, but right winger Nico Gonzalez is their best scorer in Serie A this term with six goals in 11 appearances followed by Giacomo Bonaventura with five goals and Lucas Martinez Quarta with two.
