Fiorentina admit they are concerned about the fitness of Artur Boruc, but they have ruled out a January swoop for Federico Marchetti.

The Cagliari 'keeper was linked with the Viola by some sources this morning as a possible New Year target for the Tuscan giants.

However, Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino insists the stories have little to do with reality.

"Marchetti to Fiorentina? It's pure fantasy," he responded.

"We are slightly worried about Boruc's shoulder problem and we are evaluating and verifying his condition.

"But our most important signings will be represented by the return of the injured players," he continued. "After all, it's tough to strengthen a squad in January."

First choice 'keeper Sebastien Frey is out of action with knee ligament damage until March and Boruc, signed from Celtic in the summer, missed the Week 16 loss at Udinese with injury.

Meanwhile Marchetti, who appeared for Italy at the World Cup, hasn't played for Cagliari all season after being frozen out of the squad for requesting a transfer.

While Corvino claimed that buying was not on the agenda, he did suggest that some players may leave the Artemio Franchi.

"If a few of our reserve players asked us to be sold then there is a possibility that we could do some deals."
