Rocco Comisso salutes Fiorentina fans at the Artemio Franchi.

Rocco Commisso reportedly called Pietro Terracciano to show his support after the Fiorentina goalkeeper was heavily insulted by Atalanta fans during yesterday’s Coppa Italia clash.

Several Atalanta fans reportedly targeted the  31-year-old during yesterday’s Coppa Italia match at the Gewiss Stadium, calling him Terrone, an offensive way to address Italian people coming from the South.

Both the goalkeeper and his teammate Stefano Venuti reacted on social media. “Unfortunately, racism is still a thing and what happened tonight [last night] was disgraceful,” wrote the Fiorentina defender.

“You behaved like a gentleman and you reacted as you know. On the pitch and winning in their face.”

Terracciano replied to the post, writing: “Proud to be Terrone.”

According to Calciomercato.com, Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso also took action to show support to the 31-year-old. Commisso reportedly called Terracciano to tell him that he is also proud of his roots. Commisso was born in 1949 in Marina di Gioiosa Ionica in the Region of Calabria and then moved to the USA.

Atalanta have already been fined twice this season because of insulting from chants from their fans who targeted Dusan Vlahovic and Edin Dzeko in the past.
