Empoli President Fabrizio Corsi has confirmed that Hamed Traore will not be joining Fiorentina after they failed to deposit his contract.

Empoli announced in January that Traore would sign for Fiorentina next season, but his contract was not deposited with Lega Serie A and the Viola never made his transfer official.

It then emerged that heart issues had flagged up in the midfielder’s medical, prompting the Viola to pull out of the deal.

“I’m embarrassed,” Corsi told Radio Sportiva.

“I’ve tried to conceal this situation as much as possible, also out of respect for Fiorentina, but the signed documents weren’t deposited by January and therefore they’re no longer worth anything.

“Fiorentina had requested additional medical examinations, we put him through them and the player is perfectly healthy.

“There will be another examination next week, but I can say that the player doesn’t belong to Fiorentina. Rather, he belongs to Empoli.

“In Serie A there are three more important teams than Fiorentina who want him, in addition to a German club who will play in the Champions League.”
