Vincenzo Montella was sacked this week after repeatedly refusing to commit his future to the club, also criticising the ‘project’ and budget limitations.

Today’s comments following the Board of Directors meeting were a sideswipe at Montella’s doubts.

“We outlined a profile and a budget in line with the previous Coach,” director general Rogg told reporters.

“For the new Coach you’ll need a little more patience, but you’ll know his name at most by the weekend.”

It’s likely to be Sousa, who this evening’s reports from Switzerland suggest has been liberated from his Basel FC contract.

“There is no confirmation of that yet, so we’re waiting for the all-clear,” continued Rogg.

“Today we approved a list of profiles for the job and the budget. Sousa is one of the options we are tracking.

“For a Coach we need someone who is able to take this path and continue it with the club, representing the values of team and city.

“We want to evaluate the situation carefully. Obviously if he is freed from his contract, it becomes simpler.

“We did not discuss cutting the wage bill, because we don’t feel that influences the squad. We talked about how to construct the new project, one that can entertain the fans.

“We will go forward with new actors and fresh ideas in the technical sector. The new stadium is also a key project and we are determined to see it through.”

Not all Viola supporters are happy with the choice of Sousa, as graffiti appeared outside the training ground insulting him for his past at arch rivals Juventus.

“I saw them, but Sousa was also able to get important results against Juventus.”
