The former Southampton man is on the comeback trail after a cruciate ligament injury, and recently made his first appearance since with a 10-minute cameo from the Gunners’ bench.

This lack of first-team fitness has led the Daily Express to speculate that the 25-year-old could be the subject of a loan bid from Fiorentina.

The Viola are short of options in attack, with Federico Bernardeschi and Giuseppe Rossi long-term injury casualties, and Mario Gomez proving injury-prone, having managed only 17 appearances since joining from Bayern Munich in 2013.

English defender Micah Richards is already in Florence, and the Express reports that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could be willing to let Walcott join his compatriot in January, in order to build up fitness ahead of next year’s campaign.
