Fiorentina directors Joe Barone and Daniele Pradè explain why Vincenzo Montella was sacked to bring in Beppe Iachini. “It was a difficult, but necessary choice.”
The Viola held a press conference this afternoon to present their new tactician.
“Fiorentina want to thank Montella for his hard work. It was a difficult decision, but a necessary one,” said Barone.
“We want to see the Fiorentina side that was admired at the start of the season. We required a big turning point and chose Iachini because he is the right man to bond with our fans. Giuseppe is tied to the fans, the stadium and the city, having already experienced great times in Florence.
“Our aim is to see Fiorentina grow. We are on the right path and just need patience.”
Director of sport Pradè also had words of thanks for Montella, who had been hired towards the end of last season by previous Fiorentina owners the Della Valle brothers.
“I have to thank Montella, as he have great respect for him,” said Pradè. “I remember when working for Roma in 2009 that with Bruno Conti by my side, we agreed Montella was reach to become a coach. We paid a fee to get him here in 2012, played great football and had wonderful years.
“I understand his disappointment now that our paths have split again. It’s not just his fault, as we all made mistakes.
“Having said all that, I am happy to resume from Iachini, a fair person who wants to work hard and transmit his values. Now I want to see a reaction, a show of pride from these players. They must realise every game is a battle.”
