The France international was close to a switch to the Viola on transfer deadline day, before the transfer was reportedly blocked by Rossoneri President Silvio Berlusconi.

However, La Nazione has reported today that the Artemio Franchi outfit will return for the experienced centre-back in the winter window.

Mexes’ contract is set to expire in June 2016 and he appears to be out of favour with new Milan Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, and the Viola are believed to be preparing a January move for the 33-year-old.

The defender has been with the Rossoneri since joining from Roma in 2011, and has scored six goals in 107 appearances for the San Siro side.
