Fiorentina general manager Joe Barone has been in contact with UEFA President Aleksander Cerefin as well as with the European Club Association after Alessandro Bianco was punched by a pitch invader during a 4-1 win over Sivasspor on Thursday.
The incident unfolded shortly after Gaetano Castrovilli’s goal against the Turkish outfit Sivasspor made it 4-1 in the 89th minute.
A number of Sivasspor fans spilt onto the pitch in frustration at their team’s imminent elimination from the Conference League.
One fan made his way over to the Fiorentina players and punched Bianco in the face, leaving the midfielder with blood pouring from his nose.
According to reports in Gazzetta dello Sport, La Viola GM Barone has been in contact with both UEFA and the ECA to ask for clarity in their upcoming investigations.
Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Italiano said Bianco has sustained a broken nose following the blow to the face and will undergo further assessments from the Fiorentina medical staff in the coming days.
Bianco had only been brought on in place of Sofyan Amrabat a few minutes earlier.
The 20-year-old did not feature for the remaining minutes of the game, immediately returning to the Fiorentina dressing room.
It has since been reported that the fan was arrested by local authorities after the game and will be prosecuted as soon as possible.
Bianco himself is also reported to have taken legal action against the fan following the incident.
The player’s lawyer is due to arrive in Florence today to evaluate the best possible legal proceedings.
