The 30-year-old's long history of injuries is not behind him as he had to skip last week's first leg in the Europa League Round of 32.

He will be back for tomorrow's return leg, and he responded defensively to claims he may not be ready.

“I don't think anything has to click with me,” Aquilani commented in his Press conference today.

“When I play, I always give it my all. I don't have to prove something each time I take to the pitch.

“I try doing in the field what the Coach asks of me.

“Of course this is a particular moment for me as I'm just coming back from an injury.

“I have to find my pace and my confidence on the pitch again.

“As for my contract, we'll talk of that later. Let's take things step by step.”

The former Roma man, who played for Liverpool in the 2009-10 season, went on to discuss the current condition of English football.

“I think the Premier League has developed even further, especially as far as pace goes.

“This doesn't mean that our own League is ugly.

“For me it was important to have that experience [in Liverpool], even though they play an undoubtedly superior brand of football.”
