Fiorentina gave updates on the injury scares for Albert Gudmundsson and Moise Kean, but feel the 6-0 victory away to Lecce shows they are ‘beginning to reap the fruits of our labour.’

The Viola ran riot at the Stadio Via del Mare, as they were already leading 2-0 before Antonino Gallo saw red for stopping Dodo during a clear scoring opportunity.

Andrea Colpani had yet to find the net for his new club, but scored twice here, along with a brace from Danilo Cataldi, while Fabiano Parisi and Lucas Beltran rounded out the 6-0 scoreline.

Coach Raffaele Palladino was suspended and therefore sitting in the stands, so his assistant was on the touchline and in front of microphones.

“We have been working together for three months, so we knew there could be some initial difficulties and it would require patience,” said assistant manager Stefano Citterio in his press conference.

“We are beginning to reap the fruits of our labour. Now you can see that synergy between all the players, those who start and those who come off the bench, which is fundamental.

“As for Colpani, a goal always helps boost the confidence of a striker and he had already been improving in his performances.”

This was the first time that Fiorentina have scored six away goals in Serie A since October 1966, with a 6-2 result at Venezia.

However, it was not all good news, because Gudmundsson limped off in the opening minutes with a right flexor issue, then Kean was also substituted in the second half when hurting his left ankle.

“Gudmundsson had a thigh problem and will be evaluated over the next few days. Kean sprained his ankle, he tried to hang on for a while, but then we thought it was best to take him off.”

Fiorentina are gearing up for their next Conference League match against San Gallen on Thursday.
