Fiorentina are in the thick of negotiations with Chelsea for Cesare Casadei, trying to find common ground for the Italian talent.

The 21-year-old Italian midfielder was not included in Enzo Maresca’s squad for the pre-season tour to the United States, suggesting that he has no role in the project moving forward. Napoli linked striker Romelu Lukaku was also left off the tour.

Fiorentina have emerged as the most serious suitors in Serie A for Casadei, quickly opening talks with Chelsea to explore a deal for the 21-year-old, who showed some positives during his six months on loan with Leicester City last season.

Page 17 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Fiorentina face a tough battle with Chelsea for Casadei, as the English club want a definitive sale of circa €15m whilst the Viola are pushing for a loan deal with a buy option attached.

Fiorentina are hoping the 21-year-old can replicate the work of Mohamed Salah, who left Chelsea on loan for Florence back in 2015, where he shined for half a season and excited the fans, revitalising his career.
