Fiorentina have announced that they have furloughed 50 members of staff but vowed to pay them all ‘additional compensation’.

Italy’s furlough scheme, the Fondo di Integrazione Salariale (Wage Subsidy Fund), allows businesses affected by the coronavirus pandemic to keep on unused staff, with the government covering 80 percent of their monthly pay.

“Due to the ongoing health emergency caused by COVID-19 and the subsequent suspension of most work activities, as provided for by the 'Cura Italia' Decree, ACF Fiorentina has applied to the Fondo di Integrazione Salariale (Wage Subsidy Fund) to activate social benefits for a limited number of 50 employees,” read an official statement.

“The club reserves the right to organize the activities in a way aimed at limiting the use of the Wage Subsidy Fund for some or all of the 50 staff involved, should regular activities be resumed partially or completely before then.

“Fiorentina further wishes to stress that, in an effort to support our employees, the club will supplement any social benefits received by each employee with additional compensation to ensure the same regular pay as before this action.”
