Fiorentina were held to a 1-1 friendly draw by AS Monaco at the Stadio Franchi, which began with a touching tribute to Sinisa Mihajlovic.

The Serbian was on the Viola bench from June 2010 to November 2011 and passed away on Friday at the age of 53 from an aggressive form of leukaemia.

There was a minute’s silence before kick-off for Mihajlovic as his image was projected on the screens.

Rolando Mandragora was denied by a Daland goal-line clearance before Luca Ranieri scored on the rebound from a parried Marco Benassi strike on a smart free kick routine.

Cristiano Biraghi’s set-play skimmed the woodwork, while Mandragora scuffed the ball from a promising position and Pietro Terracciano made a remarkable save on Olivera Silva.

Monaco snatched a draw on the hour mark with Breel Embolo knocking down a long ball for Myron Boadu.

Arthur Cabral continued his disappointing campaign by firing off target from a very promising position, while Riccardo Saponara and Benassi went close to a winner.
