Lorenzo Insigne is reportedly wanted by Fiorentina after Napoli fans jeered him during a public event.

He is the only home-grown player in the squad and grew up in the shadow of the Stadio San Paolo, but feels this makes the fans even more demanding.

Insigne was involved in a strange incident on Friday night during a public event where several players and President Aurelio De Laurentiis spoke from the stage.

Seemingly irritated at repeatedly being referred to as a scugnizzo (Neapolitan child of the streets) and monello (naughty child) by the presenter, Insigne refused to speak when called upon.

This set the crowd off jeering and hurling insults at the 23-year-old forward.

According to Sportitalia, Fiorentina are keeping a close eye on the situation and could plan a sensational swoop.

Insigne would be able to work with a native Neapolitan, Coach Vincenzo Montella, and be given more regular playing time than at the San Paolo.

He would also be an ideal replacement if Juan Guillermo Cuadrado is sold this summer with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester United all clamouring for the Colombian.
