The Fiorentina fan who allegedly physically assaulted an Inter supporter at the end of the match on Saturday has been identified and will be charged.

Tensions exploded at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Saturday evening after Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored a late winner to secure all three points for the Nerazzurri. The Inter delegation claim that insults were thrown their way by Fiorentina directors and others in the staff area of the stadium and things also kicked off between the supporters.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, a Fiorentina fan who seemingly physically assaulted an Inter supporter, pushing and even punching the fan, has been identified as a 56-year-old man, who will now be charged.

Florence’s police commissioner Maurizio Auriemma discussed the incident at an event at Palazzo Vecchio, confirming that action will be taken against the Viola fan.

“A football match cannot be a pretext to discharge the tensions within the sports facility. On Saturday evening, the security personnel promptly intervened and the author of this gesture was identified. He will be denounced and punished with measures.”

Many observers highlighted the insufficient barriers between the fans at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, something that could be addressed in the coming months.
