Vedran Corluka and Fiorentina are in a tense tug of war with Lokomotiv Moscow, who are refusing to release the Croatian.
It was widely reported that Corluka had accepted a €3m transfer to Florence, but on Saturday the Russians slammed the door.
“The club will not sell Corluka,” director of sport Anatoly Meshcheryakov told Match TV.
“He has two years left on his contract, not one and not six months. We are not considering the possibility of selling him, as that is not in our intention and he will not be leaving Moscow.”
According to Sky Sport Italia, Lokomotiv Moscow are even prepared to freeze Corluka out of the squad until the Italian transfer window closes.
The tension level is set to rise, as the 30-year-old centre-back has his heart set on the Stadio Franchi.
Corluka moved to Moscow in 2012 after spells at Dinamo Zagreb, Inter Zapresic, Manchester City, Tottenham and Bayer Leverkusen.
