The Spanish side is hopeful of winning the Europa League for the second time in a row, but they'll have to confront Fiorentina in the semi-final first.

“I want to play in the Champions League, but I also want to win the Europa League,” the defender confirmed to Portuguese outlet MF Total. “It's a very prestigious tournament.

“Defending a title is always very complicated, but we'll give everything we've got to win it for the second time in a row.

“Fiorentina are an excellent team, they have world-class players. It's going to be a real challenge, but we'll be playing at the same level.

“We have the advantage of playing the first game at home, so we can go to Italy with our minds at ease.

“When we play at home, we have the twelfth man on our side. Those who come to our stadium are fascinated by the support shown to us by our fans, from the first to the last minute of the game.

“I played several years together with Fiorentina's Matias Fernandez [back in Sporting CP]. He's a friend and a great footballer. I look forward to meeting him again.

“I even played a semi-final together with him, but now we're meeting again as adversaries.”
