Fiorentina have confirmed that former Everton centre-back Yerry Mina is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury while away on international duty with Colombia.

The 28-year-old was forced off early from Colombia’s 0-0 draw with Chile on Wednesday, collapsing to the floor and clutching his leg having pulled up while challenging an opponent for a loose ball.

Mina had contributed to a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Venezuela the match prior, which was his first start in well over two months.

Mina has not yet started for Fiorentina since joining on a free transfer upon the expiry of his Everton contract this summer. He is currently on a one-year contract with an option for a second if certain conditions are met.

However, the former Barcelona defender is now set for a significant spell on the touchlines, with an official statement on Fiorentina’s club website detailing that he has suffered a tear in his thigh and that the situation will be re-evaluated in a number of weeks’ time.

“The tests carried out highlighted a first or second degree tear to the rectus femoris muscle in his left thigh,” the statement read, before confirming: “ The player has started the rehabilitation process and will be re-evaluated over the next few weeks.”
