Fiorentina director Joe Barone has confirmed that they ‘reached an agreement’ for Spezia striker M’Bala Nzola and will sign him tomorrow for a reported €12m.

Multiple sources including Sportitalia and Sky Sport Italia report this evening that the deal is done between the two clubs for a fee of circa €12m, with a medical planned for tomorrow.

Speaking to reporters, Barone backed up the suggestions with a formal confirmation.

“We have reached an agreement and tomorrow will put pen to paper. We are expecting him for a medical and are super happy. We thank Spezia and his entourage for their collaboration.”

There were also rumours that Fiorentina would loan a player to Spezia as part of the transfer package.

“Something was mentioned talking to Spezia, but tonight we were focused on Nzola, so we’ll discuss it more over the next few days.”

Nzola had also been linked with West Ham United, Roma and Torino, but believes he will get more regular playing time with the Viola.

It also allows him to reconnect with his former Spezia coach Vincenzo Italiano, now at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

“Fiorentina have always been the player’s priority, we waited for the right time to come along to conclude the negotiations and now we are all happy,” added agent Giovanni Branchini to Sportitalia.

Nzola turns 27 later this month and last season scored 15 goals with three assists in 34 competitive games for Spezia, but was unable to prevent their relegation to Serie B in a play-off defeat to Verona.

  1. That is a good signing. Only 12M for Nzola is nothing. He and Holm were the two best players last season
