Fiorentina are believed to be interested in signing Benfica defender Lisandro Lopez in January.

The Viola were interested in the 26-year-old this summer, as Coach Paulo Sousa was asking for a defender, but were put-off by the €20m asking price.

However, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, with Lopez struggling for playing time, Fiorentina have revived their interest, and are prepared to offer around €7m plus bonuses.

The Portuguese side would look for more, but the newspaper believes there is plenty of room for negotiation.

That move would likely put paid to any chance of Milan’s Philippe Mexes arriving at Artemio Franchi in January.
