Fiorentina director general Andrea Rogg says the goal is the Champions League, and defends the club’s January transfer campaign.
Viola Coach Paulo Sousa hinted at his disappointment with the club’s winter signings, and many fans have accused their club of lacking ambition.
“Fiorentina moved according to the needs of the Coach,” Rogg insisted, as reported by Gianluca Di Marzio’s website.
“We modified the squad to reach our goal for the season, which is third, which grants access to the Champions League.
“We’ve renewed the contracts of some players we think are useful to our team, that means we’re a club which plans and doesn’t leave anything to chance. The results are there for all to see.
“The January transfer window was done in collaboration with Sousa, we wanted to reinforce the squad.”
Fiorentina saw a move for River Plate defender Emanuel Mammana collapse on transfer deadline day, and Rogg offered an explanation.
“We were talking, but then I received an order from the club to stop negotiations. The reason was simple, River changed the terms of the deal, they wanted to keep part of the player’s registration.
“At that point, the President told us to stop everything.”
