Calciomercato.com reports that Fiorentina are working on a deal to convince the Brazilian team to let their 28-year-old Argentine leave the club.
Fiorentina were also linked with the player during the transfer window last summer and he would still be available through a €10m release clause.
But the report claims the Viola will only have to cough up €6m for the Argentina international with an Italian citizenship.
His multiple nationalities will make it easier to bring him to Europe and strengthens the chances of a deal to be materialised this winter.
The report also claims that Fiorentina are looking for a new striker, currently working on their approach to bring either Patrick Cutrone from Wolverhampton or Krzysztof Piatek from Milan.
