The FIGC President Gabriele Gravina has sent a letter to the Italian government asking to re-open stadiums ahead of 2021-22.

Sky Sport Italia reports Gravina wrote a letter to Undersecretary of Sport Valentina Vezzali to ask for the re-opening of the stadiums in Italy from next season.

The FIGC doesn’t want to wait any longer and the request comes directly from the Federcalcio President, due to the decrease in infections in the country.

The broadcaster reports Gravina informed the Federal Council that he has written to Vezzali and the Lega Serie A has already urged the Italian government to make a decision.

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta also spoke to the press during the presentation of new coach Simone Inzaghi and underlined the losses caused by the pandemic.

Marotta: ‘Selling Hakimi was painful, Inzaghi…’

“I wish the government will soon re-open stadiums which are important assets for every club,” Moratta said at a press conference.

“The Lega and the clubs are in talks to re-open the stadiums, there are millions of people who got vaccinated and this could push even more people to get it.

“We know the stadiums could be re-opened, we don’t know if completely or just partially, but it would already be a great success.

“First of all it’s sad to play without fans, secondly, but not most importantly, Inter lost €100m between 2019 and 2021 in matchday revenues.”
