FIGC president Gabriele Gravina wants to move forward with Roberto Mancini and he’s proposed a shared project.

The Italian coach noted that he was ‘working for the future’ on Instagram following the Azzurri’s disastrous 1-0 loss to North Macedonia earlier this week. Italy will now miss out on their second consecutive World Cup, again breaking the hearts of fans up and down the peninsula.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Gravina wants Mancini to stay on as Azzurri coach and he’s presented a shared project to the 57-year-old in order to convince him not to resign.

Everything starts from an analysis of the last eight months followed by solutions needed to build for the future. Italy are looking ahead of the North American World Cup in 2026, where Gravina would like Mancini to lead the Azzurri. There will be more meetings between the pair over the coming days, especially after the friendly against Turkey on Tuesday.

It’s likely that a new Italy side will be seen in June, when the Azzurri will face Argentina, England, Hungary and Germany twice, where the Italian coach will be able to try out new things.

Mancini still needs time to reflect and makes his decisions regarding his future and the FIGC do not want to rush him, but for now things are pointing to him staying.

  1. Coaching Italy is very difficult, it’s just like coaching Jamaica because no quality and most of their players play for small clubs and the ones in big clubs sits on the bench

  2. I dont t think we have any other manager that hi can do a job for italia My problem we never learn every 4 years We doing same again and again Why do we have to play in Palermo , We thane the same thing 4 years ago we got knocked out same ground against Sweden , What i saying that every times we playing one of the bottom country we think it easy to beat We never learn Lets get together italia , To me i Cant blind Mancini blind the players We should scored 2 to3 goals Viva italia

  3. Whomever takes on the job, win or lose, be one of youngest team on the pitch with hunger and energy. Experience and age is old school thinking and the young players need to get some sort of experience. That’s what all the games in June should be about. Start looking for replacements for the 30 year olds as by WC, they will be 34. Manco needs to do the same he did after we were out of 2018 WC so he can do it again.

  4. To be fair Mancini’s star men chiesa and spinazzola were unavailable and those that were available underperformed due to lack of form or fatigue coupled with poor team selection rather than go with inform players showed too much loyalty to players who for most of the season have also been underperforming for their clubs & we know who they are!

  5. I am not sure Mancini has the heart to proceed with Italy. The Team have let him down Strikers scoring with their Clubs and not performing for the Natonal Team. He tends to move on when events are not going his way and who could blame him after the recent debacle. He loves new challenges and has always expressed his desire to return to Club Management. I would love to see back on The Premiership

  6. Mancini has adapted as a coach, he used to be angrier but is more calm now. I think he should continue, only sone goal scoring talent is needed and he will be able to do well. Italy does a lot of things right, creating chances, patterns of play, high pressing, defense is mostly still good, just lacking the goal scoring.

  7. Mancini can rebuild the team, just like he did after the 2018 qualification failure.
You can not blame this entirely on him, the team has been in decline since September last year when they fumbled the qualifiers.

  8. lots of loser english fans trolling here… Ale and Francis to begin with.. others on the other stories are trolling

England still sucks.. since 1966… and it’s very interesting that England always has the easiest group to qualify in.. San Marino is always in their group for starters..

  9. How a comparison to Jamaica was reached is beyond comprehension, but not surprising given the drivel written on here

  10. UEFA > CONCACAF, that’s why.

But hey, Canada certainly has deserved their qualification.

As for Italy, guys, I hate to keep repeating it but until Clubs (Udinese above all !) start playing Italians, this will continue to happen. 30-35% of Italians in Serie A is too low.

How many of our guys (Scamacca, Berardi) have any Champions League experience?

In World Cup 1994 we had the European Champions Milan, who thrashed Barca 4-0 in the Final, heavily represent us.

As a result, what do we see? The Italy team that has low CL experience cannot even qualify, while the 1994 team made the Final.

It starts with the Clubs. The way rules are now with the EU, it will be impossibly to change. They are going to have to get creative as to not break laws. Until then, it will be a battle just to qualify. Clubs are going to want to have to do this on their own. I cannot see it happening.

  11. As for the CT

Might as well stick with Mancio. Cannavaro or Pirlo would not be a proper fit.

Mancio has tried his best to preach calm and positivity and the players took advantage of that. Only in the Home Qualifier versus Lithuania did he stress the importance of scoring goals for Tie Breaker (important at the time).

Next cycle he needs to be hard on the players.

  12. hes going to PSG for big cash.

    its the smart move.

italy would be lucky to keep him on. / afford him.

  13. Keep Manio but he needs to be hard on players as they took advantage of him
Best example is when he is yelling at Jorgi Don’t let him kick that ball, after he grabbed it from Bedardi’s and and oh well he ignored Mancio and kicked that ball.

Mancio is too nice to the players and they took advantage of him. When was the last time you told an Italian friend of yours to not jaywalk the street and when you parted ways and you hid behind a tree trunk what did your nephew do…jaywalk the street.

Yeah I suppose he gets some of the blame but the players took advantage of him and some of them like the 3 stooges (Jorgi, Insg, Ciro) should have recused themselves as we knew and they did that they were underperforming.

    The best advice is…
LET’S LISTEN TO BAGGIO AND CREATE AN ACADEMY TO ADDRESS THE POOR CLINCIAL FINISHES, THAT IS THE REAL ISSUE WITH ITALY!!!

  14. who in theyre right mind would take on such a basket case of a organisation the seria A is a joke makes a a leauge here in australia look frigging great seria a has ruined the national team with stupid and greedy teams we all know who they are im italian living in Australia im gutted for my birth place foggia italy but happy Australia are not at the WC at least a can laugh about that
