The FIGC’s prosecutor has reportedly opened an inquiry after Lazio Ultras told women not to sit at the front of the Curva Nord.

The hard-line fans handed out flyers before the match with Napoli stating that the first few rows are like the trenches and “in the trenches, we do not allow women, wives and girlfriends”.

Female fans were therefore urged to “position themselves from the 10th row back”, or find other areas of the stadium to sit in if they’d chosen the stadium “as an alternative to a romantic walk in Villa Borghese”.

The flyers were denounced by FIGC commissioner Roberto Fabbricini, and now ANSA reports that an investigation has been opened by prosecutor Giuseppe Percoraro.

Under strict liability laws, the club could be punished for the discriminatory behaviour by their fans.
