The FIGC has opened an investigation into anti-Semitic chants made by Juventus and Inter fans over the weekend and Maurizio Sarri’s claims against referees.

Juventus and Inter fans made anti-Semitic chants during Saturday’s games against Fiorentina and Inter, leading the Italian federation to open an investigation into the incidents. On Sunday, Milan condemned chants from Inter’s Curva Nord on Twitter.

On the other hand, Sarri criticised referees and VAR after a potential late penalty incident in LazioNapoli was not subject to an on-field review.

“Either those in the VAR booth are bad at their jobs, or the other alternative is very worrying,” Sarri told Sky Sport Italia on Saturday.

“The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the case of anti-Semitic chants by the visiting fans in the matches Fiorentina-Juventus and Milan-Inter,” the FIGC said in an official statement.

“Furthermore, it was also opened a file on the statements made by the coach of Lazio Maurizio Sarri after Lazio-Napoli on Saturday, bearing accusations against the referee of the match and the entire refereeing class.”

Lazio released a statement on Sunday demanding ‘attention and uniformity in decisions taken on the field of play, to protect the credibility of the League.’

The Biancocelesti believe referee Simone Sozza should have reviewed a potential penalty incident that saw Manuel Lazzari elbowed by Mario Rui inside the penalty area.

The Biancocelesti host Feyenoord in their Europa League group stage opener on Thursday ahead of Sunday’s Serie A clash with Verona at the Stadio Olimpico.

  1. We get more offended by meaningless and pathetic chants than kids and families being denied basic human rights and constantly having their lands stolen and displaced in Palestine, by blood thirsty thieves! Our hypocrisy knows no bounds! Shameful!

  2. Football is a game. Regardless of what position you take, if it becomes full of political and religious doctrine, it stops being a game.

  3. Leaving aside the whataboutery here, shameful, dinosaur stuff from some fans. I hope all responsible are banned for life.

But spurs fans can sing ‘we are the yids’ and no one said anything about that for decades! Whataboutery? See, its words and terms like this that highlights one sided agendas and bias! That’s why there is no legitimacy to all of this!

  5. Rosario. You literally started by saying “but what about Spurs fans” LOL.

You may be okay with Inter fans saying what they said, I’m not. Its disgusting. And yes, other things are also disgusting but try discussing the issue at hand.

  6. DB Milan.

FI has suddenly decided that I can’t respond to tell you that I’m of sephardic ancestry myself. I’m not OK with it at all.

  7. DB.

Ahh so it did allow me. My point is that we throw a tiff over some idiots talking drivel, but not so much when children are blown up and entire villages and towns are bulldozed.

That’s fair but this is a football site. I wouldn’t come here to comment on the latest atrocities in Palestine, I would come here to comment on football fans being anti-semitic though.

Even if this was a broader discussion kind of a site, can you imagine trying to post anything you feel is important here? My hair would be torn out trying to figure out which word has gotten my post deleted.

I saw ACM1899 mentioning Disqus, might not be a bad idea.

  9. DB Milan.

I 100% agree with you. The issue is that FI started it by posting Ukraine related stuff. But if someone disagreed or highlighted double standards, they’d go ahead and delete it.

I don’t know what Disqus is, but making accounts verified would be a start.

  10. “We get more offended by meaningless and pathetic chants than kids and families being denied basic human rights and constantly having their lands stolen and displaced in Palestine, by blood thirsty thieves! Our hypocrisy knows no bounds! Shameful!”

Perfectly said, sums up the whole issue.
